University of Cambridge Decarbonisation Network

An exciting new opportunity has opened up to conduct research at SSE Renewables’ Coire Glas Pumped Hydro Storage Scheme. Coire Glas is the first large scale pumped storage project to be developed in the UK for more than 40 years and offers unique opportunities for researchers which is why SSE Renewables has opened a general ‘call for proposals’.

From engineering, business, geography, environmental studies to earth and social sciences, SSER is inviting submissions from academics at all career stages and from all disciplines, building on the opportunity of Coire Glas to advance knowledge and our understanding of the natural and social world. Examples of this could include but are not limited to pilot studies, enabling site access and testing, proof of concept studies or support for student research.

SSER has flexible funding available to support a number of projects but recommends for individual projects to be costed up to £20,000. The funding could act to enable future studies and can be used for any direct academic research. Project submissions of all sizes are welcome and proposals should be sent to academicpartnerships@sse.com and coireglas@sse.com.
