Built Environment SIG: Demolish or Retain Buildings without Heritage Value?

There has been an increase in the number of campaigns arguing for the prioritisation of retrofit over demolition and rebuild, due to savings in materials and therefore embodied carbon. This session highlights what challenges need to be overcome and factors governing decisions to demolish or retain existing buildings, specifically when heritage value is not the key driver.
